National Project Officer-Urban & Regional Planner


The objective of this assignment is to provide technical and on-job capacity development on urban and regional planning, particularly to support regions and cities on the development of regional and cluster/metropolitan spatial plans.


Duties and Responsibilities


Under the overall supervision of the UN-Habitat Programme Manager for Ethiopia and the direct supervision of the senior Urban Planner based in Addis Ababa, with the support from the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Africa (ROAf) and in close collaboration with UN-Habitat thematic branches, national and local counterparts, the incumbent of the post will have to fulfil the following duties and responsibilities:


Support the development of regional plan (of his/her respective region), which will be guided by the urban and regional planning rules and regulations of the country and the NUDSP,

Support the preparation of metropolitan/structure plan of his/her respective cluster/city

Support UN-Habitat’s team and the structure plan team to collect, compile, spatialize, analyse and interpret spatial data;

Organize and support training and capacity development activities related to urban and regional planning, GIS, cartography and data analysis;

Collaborate with UN-Habitat’s experts from thematic branches and report to the urban Planner and the UN-Habitat Programme Manager for Ethiopia;

Support the senior urban planner on the preparation of progress reports regarding the implementation of the project, especially related to urban and regional planning, cartography and GIS issues;
